Blessings Masikini, aged 24, was sentenced by Thyolo First Grade Magistrate Court to a four-year prison term for burglarizing Mdawa Catholic Church.

On January 1, 2024, Masikini not only broke into the church but also vandalized some statues, prompting the police to conduct a medical examination.

State prosecutor Felix Senzani informed the court that the medical results revealed no signs of mental health issues in Masikini.

Despite pleading guilty to the charges, Masikini attributed his actions to intoxication during his plea for leniency, highlighting that he is a provider for his family.

The court, considering the severity of the offense, sentenced Masikini to a four-year jail term for the church burglary and vandalism.
