Police in Mponela in Dowa district have arrested a 24-year-old man named Brian Banda for allegedly deceiving people into believing that he is a medical worker.

Mponela Police Spokesperson Sergeant Macpatson Msadala stated that the man was apprehended on January 8 this year in Mponela.

Sergeant Msadala explained that one of the government employees in Mponela became suspicious after observing the man who wore clothes resembling those worn by essential workers.

These actions raised suspicions among the government worker, who questioned Brian Banda about the identities of the people he worked with in Mponela, but he failed to provide their names.

The suspect is expected to appear in court to answer charges of impersonating a life-saving worker.

Brian Banda comes from Masunda Village under the leadership of Chief Phambala in Ntcheu district.
