An eighteen-year-old form one student, identified as Hastings Chakufuma, has committed suicide in Dowa, in his aunt’s compound at Nason Village in Mponela.
Mponela Police Public Relations officer, Macpatson Msadala says Chakufuma (now deceased), who was living with his aunt, committed the act on Monday, January 08, 2024.
He is said to have left some writings on the wall, as a suicide note, about the multiple relationships he had with girls and which displeased his aunt.
Postmortem revealed that death was due to suffocation, secondary to strangulation. No foul play is suspected.
Police at Mponela, are advising members of the community around in their policing area to report to Mponela Police Victim Support Unit if they have problems or they are stressed.
Hastings hailed from Mkunkhu village, Traditional Authority Kaomba in Kasungu district.
