Football Association of Malawi (FAM) have ordered Mighty Mukuru Wanderers to pay a fine of K1.5 million for boycotting the Airtel top 8 second leg match against Silver Strikers on December 6, 2023.

According to a press release signed by FAM’s, Secretary General Afred Gunda, the nomads have been ordered to pay K1.5 million and banned for 1 year from participating in the competitions under the local governing body for failure to show up for the game.

However, the ban has been suspended since wanderers are the first offenders for the crime but they have been ordered not to commit another crime for 1 year starting from 1 January, 2024.

The suspension of the ban means that wanderers will participate in the FAM’s competitions this year as the nomads need to maintain  good behavior throughout the suspension period and failure to do so the suspension will be imposed.

The Lali Lubani Road outfit were charged with two accounts for the conduct which are failure to show up for the game, contrary to Article 10.6 and bringing the game of football into disrepute, contrary to Article 13.2.

Last year, FAM through its Competitions Committee, ordered the nomads to pay K22 million for damages caused at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe during the abandoned first leg match against Silver Strikers.
