Malawians are expected to experience long hours of prolonged load shedding, which will take a maximum of seven hours in some areas during the long weekend from this Saturday to Monday.
According to statement released by EGENCO, about 135.1 megawatts will not be available for supply to the national grid because the Electricity Generation Company (EGENCO) will shut down Nkula A and B power stations for maintenance works.
“The work will require complete shutdown of both Malawians to experience 7hrs of load shedding over the weekend and lowering of the head-pond level to create safe working environment for the Engineers, Divers, Technicians and welders during inspection and installation of trash screens at the intake.” Reads part of the statement.
However, EGENCO has advised its customers to switch off all electrical appliances during the load-shedding period as the power supply may be restored earlier than the stated time.
