The Malawi Red Cross Society (MRCS) has delivered a ray of hope to survivors of Cyclone Freddy in Phalombe District by handing over seven newly constructed houses.
Valued at K50 million, the houses stand as evidence of the collaborative efforts of various entities dedicated to alleviating the hardships faced by the affected population.
The funding for the initiative was extended by Big Win, a UK-based philanthropic organization and was secured by Cyclone Goodwill Ambassador, Dr Joyce Banda, through the Joyce Banda Foundation.
Edith Akridge, Managing Director for Joyce Banda Foundation, disclosed that the allocated funds were channeled through the foundation and expressed gratitude for the impact of the intervention. Group Village Headman Malima conveyed his satisfaction over the development and urged other well-wishers to borrow a leaf.
Last year, the Goodwill Ambassadors, former Presidents Dr Bakili Muluzi and Dr Banda handed over 45 houses and this addition brings the total to 52 in Phalombe alone.
