A Nkhata Bay police station statistical annual report has shown that crime and road accidents reduced in 2023 by 18.4 percent and 43 percent respectively.
The report also indicates that a total of 566 criminal cases were recorded in 2023 as compared to 694 cases which were recorded in 2022 while 50 road accidents were recorded in 2023 as compared to 88 which were recorded in 2022.
In 2023, 29 fatal road accidents were recorded, with 29 lives lost, while in 2022, 29 fatal road accidents were recorded as well with 29 deaths.
Spokesperson for Nkhata Bay Police Kondwani James has said police in the district are striving to reduce cases that are currently on the rise such as grievous harm.
