Police in Mangochi have launched a manhunt for a 15-year-old boy who escaped after stabbing to death his 26-year-old elder sister, Fyness Chapweteka due to misunderstandings over a new pot.
According to Mangochi Police Station Public Relations Officer Inspector Amina Tepani Daudi, the incident occurred on January 11th, 2024 at Mtendere Village, Traditional Authority Chilipa in Mangochi.
Daudi indicated that mother to the two, Fyness(now deceased) bought the new pot meant for cooking and on this fateful day, the suspect took the pot without his elder sister’s permission and was using it to roast dry maize.
“After she noticed, the elder sister tried to advise her brought not to use the new pot for that purpose a thing which angered the suspect such that a fierce fight erupted between the two,” Daudi revealed.
She further highlighted that in the process, the suspect took a knife and stabbed his sister on the neck and she consequently, fell unconscious and the mother rushed with her to Phirilongwe Health Center where she was pronounced dead upon arrival.
“Postmortem conducted at the same time facility revealed that death was due to severe loss of blood as efforts to arrest the suspect are underway,” She said.
Once found, he will be charged with murder which contraves section 209 of the Penal Code and Police are appealing to the public who may have information that may lead to the arrest of the boy to tip then off.
