Police at Jenda have on January 11, 2024 arrested Chikondi Muwa 24, on suspicion that he has been having sexual intercourse with two minors, Roseline Nkhata 16 and Rose Phiri 15 after marrying them at Jenda in Mzimba district.
It is alleged that on December 24, 2023 Chikondi married Roseline Nkhata and on January 10, 2024 he then married Rose Phiri. The father of the first victim Enock Nkhata noted her daughter missing a day before Christmas, while in search of his daughter he was told that his daughter was married by a certain man at section 10, he was also informed that the same man married another minor and this prompted Nkhata to report the issue to Jenda police station.
Detectives from Jenda police station followed up the issue and arrested Chikondi Muwa at section 10 where he was found with the two minors inside his house. After being referred to Jenda rural hospital, a medical report has shown that the two minor had sexual intercourse.
Whilst the two minors have been repatriated back to their parents, Chikondi Muwa has been charged with having sexual intercourse with a female child which is against section 138 subsection (1) of the penal code, and he will appear before court in due course.
Police at Jenda are reminding members of the community, parents and guardians that legal age for one to be married, or be called an adult is 18 years. It is therefore, in this vein that people are encouraged to report anyone involved in cases of having sexual acts with minors to police.
