Kasungu Senior Resident Magistrate court has convicted and sentenced a 38-year-old woman to 16 years imprisonment with hard labour for having sexual intercourse with a 16-year-old boy.

Public Relations Officer for kasungu Police station Sub Inspector Joseph Kachikho has identified the convict aswho hails from Missi Village, Traditional Authority Mwase, in Kasungu district.

Police prosecutor Sub Inspector Martha Mwenechanya to the court  that in October 2023, the victim was employed by the suspect’s daughter who stays within Kasungu town to do some piece work in her maize field and was staying with the suspect, sleeping in the kitchen.
One night, while asleep in the kitchen the suspect approached the young boy, asking him to go and sleep in the house.
Upon entering the house, the suspect invited the victim to her bedroom where she started showing him some pornographic movies and later ended up having sexual intercourse.
Mwenechanya further told the court that the victim was told not to reveal the ordeal to anyone.
After some days the suspect had sexual intercourse again with the victim in a nearby bush. Afterwards the victim reported the issue to her mother who reported the matter to Kasungu Police Station.
The victim was referred to Kasungu District Hospital where he was diagnosed with Syphilis. So too the convict was diagnosed with the same ailment.
Appearing in court, Takondwa pleaded not guilty and this prompted the state to parade four witnesses to prove the case beyond reasonable doubt.
In his submission, Police prosecutor prayed for a stiffer punishment since she planned to do the act and did it repeatedly instead of her being taking care of the child.
In Passing sentence, Senior Resdent Magistrate Eliya Zawanda concurred with Police prosecutor’s submission hence sentenced Banda to 16 years imprisonment with hard labour to deter other would-be offenders.
