President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has renamed Phalombe District Hospital to John Chilembwe Hospital, as a way of honoring John Chilembwe’s selfless sacrifice for the people of Malawi.
Chakwera announced the change during Chilembwe Day Memorial Service at Providence Industrial Mission (PIM) in Chiradzulu.
According to Chakwera the move is to honour Chilembwe’s sacrificial services to the nation.
The Malawi leader said just like health professionals in the county who sacrifice personal pleasure to save lives, Chilembwe did the same by sacrificing his career and life for the freedom of the county.
Meanwhile some Malawians have criticized the move saying Chakwera should build a new hospital in Chiradzulu and name it after Rev John Chilembwe.
