The First Grade Magistrate Court in Mzuzu has convicted and sentenced Shalom Simbeye to 4 years imprisonment with hard labour for unlawful wounding.
The court through prosecutor Sub-Inspector Sam Juziwel heard that Consider Kaunda had some issues with the convict concerning her boyfriend and on October 21,2023 the victim met the convict at the well where she wanted to fetch water. While there, she asked the convict about the romours circulating concerning her boyfriend. This made the convict angry and they started a fight.
The convict assaulted the victim with a razor blade which she took from her pocket and left her with multiple cut wounds.
Thereafter she was taken to Police where she was given a medical report to go to the hospital for treatment.
Later the suspect was arrested by the community and brought her to Police.
In mitigation the convict asked for court’s leniency saying that she is pregnant and also that she is a first offender.
In his submission prosecutor Juziwel prayed for a stiffer punishment saying that the victim has been disfigured permanently and that the offence itself is serious in nature.
Concurring with the state , First Grade Magistrate Robert Makaika sentenced the convict to 4 years imprisonment with hard labour.
Simbeye hails from Nthalire village in the area of traditional authority Nthalire in Chitipa District.
