Principal Resident Magistrate Rodrick Michongwe is today expected to sentence Professor Tuweh Gadama for offering higher education without any authority from National Council for Higher Education (Nche).
It has been noted that Gadama was offering higher education Programs under Cyprus Institute and Jerusalem University and he was convicted last week on his own guilty plea.
In 2022, Gadama organized a graduation ceremony at Bingu International Convention Centre to award certificates to his candidates.
He was later arrested and charged with the offences of offering or pretending to offer higher education programme without authority of the Council contrary to Section 34(a) of the NCHE Act and conferring a qualification granted by a higher education institution or in collaboration with a higher education institution without authority of the Council contrary to section 34(b) of the NCHE Act.
Meanwhile, Nche considers this conviction a milestone in dealing with the mushrooming of bogus universities in the country.
