Police have arrested five individuals suspected of stealing relief maize meant for hunger-stricken communities in Inkosi Bvumbwe, Thyolo.
The suspects committed the theft after being entrusted by Inkosi Bvumbwe to guard the place, making it a betrayal of trust.
South West Police Region spokesperson, Joseph Sauka, revealed that the stolen bags of maize have been recovered as investigations continue.
The arrest follows irate youths storming the chief’s headquarters earlier, demanding an explanation for the alleged theft of relief maize.
