An angry mob has killed a 33-year-old man in Thyolo on suspicion that he stole chicken in the wee hours of Saturday 20th January 2024.

Deputy spokesperson for Thyolo police, Sergeant Rabecca Kashoti, has identified the deceased as Chiyembekezo Chelewani and said the mob from Mkaka village, Senior Chief Nchiramwera, caught Chilewani around 2 AM for allegedly stealing chicken at Lloyd Mandawala before assaulting him.

Kashoti said that after that, the villagers informed his relatives, who took him to Thyolo District Hospital, where he died while receiving treatment.

Postmortem results have shown that he sustained a head injury. Police have since launched investigations to arrest all the suspects.
