Lilongwe Police has arrested a 26- year-old Yamikani Geoffrey, for being suspected of breaking into a warehouse and steal assorted items such as 234 cartons of lollipop sweets, 115 bales of pampers, 35, 15, bales and bags of sugar respectively, among others, all valued at K8.5 million.
According to Lilongwe Police Station Assistant Public Relations Officer Khumbo Sanyiwa, Lilongwe Police officers under the Zone 1 rapid response team that was doing vehicle patrols in Area 2, arrested Geoffrey who was in possession of 123 cartons, containing 20 packets of 50 pieces of sweets each.
Sanyiwa said that after being intercepted at around 18:00 hours on a hired motor vehicle he was travelling in, Geoffrey failed to provide documents for the items.
She added that upon further grilling, he later revealed and led detectives to the warehouse where he stole the items.
Yamikani Geofrey (suspect) hails from Kamtunga Village, Traditional Authority Kabudula in Lilongwe District.
