In Blantyre, 33-year-old Cedric Liwonde is facing a six-year prison sentence after being found guilty in a case involving a relationship with a 17-year-old girl who is experiencing mental health challenges.

Prosecutor Dalton Magisitiliti presented the case at the Limbe Magistrate’s Court in Blantyre.

According to the spokesperson for Limbe Police, Chibisa Mulimbika, the court heard that Liwonde had engaged in a sexual relationship with the young girl at his residence on three occasions, leading her mother to report the matter to the police.

Mulimbika mentioned that details from Gulupu Health Center, where the girl was referred for examination, confirmed signs of sexual activity consistent with the allegations against Liwonde.

However, during court proceedings, Liwonde denied the accusations, claiming that the girl was his consensual partner with whom he had a mutual understanding.

Cedric Liwonde hails from Mwakhiwa village, under the chieftaincy of Juma in the Mulanje district.
