Police have arrested two of their colleagues working at the Karonga Police Station, suspecting them of involvement in a case related to allowing access to alcohol and mobile phones in a police cell in the district.
The arrest of the officers comes after a video surfaced on social media, showing individuals believed to be crime suspects engaging in misconduct, specifically consuming alcohol within the police cell.
According to the spokesperson of the police in the country, Peter Kalaya, the arrested officers are Sub Inspector Kaston Matemba and Constable Brighton Mpombeza.
They are facing charges related to violating the police conduct code and abusing their office duties.
