Information reaching this publication indicates that the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has appointed former Minister of Agriculture Dr. George Chaponda as leader of opposition in Parliament.

Chaponda will replace the fired former DPP Vice President for the South Kondwani Nankhumwa.

DPP Secretary General Dr. Clement Mwale has confirmed of the development, saying Chaponda’s name has been submitted to the Speaker Catherine Gotani Hara.

The party has also appointed DPP Vice President for the North Jappie Mhango as Chief Whip in Parliament and will be deputized by Mary Navicha.

Meanwhile, Nankhumwa is yet to comment on the matter.
