Police have arrested Chifuniro Keith Manjolo, the child of a fellow officer, for allegedly duping unsuspecting job seekers into believing that he would find them a job in the service.
According to a police report seen by Zodiak, Manjolo (the suspect) alleged that he worked with Assistant Commissioner of Police Joel Makiyi based at police headquarters in Area 30, whom he claims was in the middle of the deal.
Manjolo, whose mother works at the Eastern Region Police headquarters in Kasungu, was asked by another officer if his mother could help facilitate securing employment for his brother.
At first, Manjolo declined, saying that his mother is not directly connected to the hiring power in the service but only to revert to the officer, saying that he has found a way to help him.
The police report says that at first, Manjolo collected 150 000 kwacha from the police officer who asked for assistance and later told him five more spaces were available at 180 000 kwacha, whose total sum he also collected.
Later, the officer and the rest of the people who paid the bribe discovered that the offer they got was fake. They started pressuring Manjolo, leading to his arrest. Police have discovered that another 38 people were also juped in this manner and have launched an investigation.
