Malawi is today joining the rest of the world in commemorating International Day of Education which falls on 30th January.

Events marking the commemoration will take place at Mkwichi Secondary School in Lilongwe and Minister of Education, Madalitso Kambauwa Wirima will preside over.
International Day of Education was set aside by the United Nations (UN) six years ago for nations to consolidate gains made in the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
This year’s commentation is being held under the theme, “Learning for Lasting Peace”, which is calling upon UN member states to reflect on the role of education in peace building.
The theme therefore calls all stakeholders to hold hands and commit to invest in education for the betterment of the society.
In Malawi government has shown commitment to see increase in access to quality education through a number of interventions which calls for increase in number of school blocks, text books, science laboratories, libraries , reduction of student-teacher ratio, availability of mentors and enhanced leadership in schools among others.
