The High Court sitting in Mzuzu has adjourned to this afternoon hearing of a human trafficking case involving former President Peter Mutharika’s stepson, Tadikila Mafubza.
One of the defence lawyers, Gilbert Khonyongwa asked for adjournment as he had a car breakdown, as Judge Gladys Gondwe expressed worry over the state’s no show in the courtroom.
As the case was starting at 9:00am none of the eight suspects was available and only one defence lawyer was available.
Mafubza, alongside seven others, are suspected of having had a hand in the death of 30 suspected victims of human trafficking, whose bodies were exhumed from a mass grave in Mtangatanga Forest Reserve in Mzimba District on October 18, 2022.
The eight are facing manslaughter and aggravated human trafficking charges.
