President Lazarus Chakwera has dissented to the Political Parties amendment Bill which parliament passed last year.

The bill among others proposed that all political parties represented in parliament should be getting funding from government for their day to day activities.

According to a statement signed by presidential press secretary Anthony Kasunda, the dissenting is due to failure by the bill to comply with section 40(2) of the country’s constitution.

However, the president has assented to nine other bills including the Ombudsman amendment, Tobacco Industry, Persons with disabilities, Data protection, Electronic Transaction and Cyber Security amendment and International Arbitration.
