Police in Dowa have apprehended two individuals, Levison Mgubani, 45, and Stemcam Chatinkha, 41, for impersonating National Economic Empowerment Fund (NEEF) personnel and engaging in fraudulent activities.

The arrest came after NEEF Senior Operations Supervisor, Precious Chinthenga, received a tip-off about individuals masquerading as NEEF officers in Dzaleka Refugee Camp.

Upon investigation, police discovered Chatinkha with counterfeit NEEF loan application forms while interacting with clients at Dzaleka Refugee Camp, leading to his arrest.

Subsequent interrogation of Chatinkha led law enforcement officers to the residence of his accomplice, Mgubani, where he was also apprehended.

During questioning, the duo disclosed that they had established three clubs—Tilitonse Club (11 members), Katondo Club (15 members), and Tiyese Club (15 members)—and collected K460,000 in deposits from club members.

The suspects confessed to soliciting funds from unsuspecting victims under false pretenses, posing as legitimate NEEF representatives.

Both suspects are currently in police custody awaiting their court appearance to face charges related to fraud and impersonation.
