Police in Dowa have arrested a 23-year old man for suspacting him tha he allegedly kill his grandfather in the district.

Spokesperson for Dowa Police, Sergeant Alice Sitima said, has confirmed the arrest and identified the suspect as Isaac John who hails from Besera village, Traditional Authority Msakambewa in the district.

According to Sitima,the incident occured on Friday December 30, 2023 where Matafale Mgombe, 45, reported that his uncle, Nyamayadothi Mwale, 53, was assaulted by two of his grandchildren (Naphiri and Isaac).

Sitima said on that material day, the suspect and his accomplice who is currently at large, took a fight with Nyamayadothi after quarrelling over a piece of land, for farming.

John used a piece of wood to stab Nyamayadothi in the ear and escaped.

The matter was reported to Dzaleka Police Unit who took Nyamayadothi to Dzaleka Health Centre for treatment before being referred to Kamuzu Central Hospital where a piece of wood that remained in the ear, was removed, but, died whilst receiving treatment and Police investigations led to the arrest of the suspect who had been hiding in Lilongwe.

Meanwhile, the suspect has wilfully admitted to have committed the offense and will soon appear before court soon to answer the murder charge
