The Magistrate Court in Lilongwe has failed to commit to the High Court a case in which former Reserve Bank of Malawi governor Dalitso Kabambe and six others are accused of abuse of office for allowing unprocedural transactions of K20 billion, offered as letters of credit to private entities.

The case has today been adjourned to a later date, a request which was made by one of the lawyers representing the accused, Lusungu Gondwe, on the basis that his client, Leonard Kandoje, is hospitalized.

But the State, through Dzikondianthu Malunda, argued against the application, adding that the matter has suffered several adjournments and there was need to make headway.

However, Chief Resident Magistrate Madalitso Chimwaza noted that the State failed to cite provisions backing its position and went ahead to adjourn the case.
