Zomba Senior Resident Magistrate Mercy Bonongwe has acquitted Chimwemwe Zololo who was answering a case of attempting to sell his two-year-old stepson.
In her ruling, Bonongwe observed that the witnesses in the case failed to give convincing reasons that Zololo really had intentions to sell his son.
Bonongwe further noted that despite an agreement between Zololo and the purported business person Arnold Chimenya to meet at a specific time to sell the child, Zololo did not turn up.
“It was Chimenya who followed Zololo to his house before calling police who arrested the suspect,” Bonongwe said.
Zololo, who was arrested on 27 January at Njala village, said he was relieved that justice had prevailed.
