Lilongwe Police station spokesperson Hastings Chigalu revealed that the suspects, Alick Akimu, aged 56, and Rebson Makumba, aged 42, were found in possession of four pieces of elephant ivory at 6 miles.

The police received a tip-off indicating that the suspects were offering the ivory for sale at 6 miles, prompting an investigation.

Following the tip-off, the police conducted a follow-up and subsequently arrested the suspects, seizing the illicit ivory.

Akimu, from Mangochi, and Makumba, from Balaka District, will be brought before the court to face charges related to the possession and trafficking of protected species.
