The Principal Resident Magistrate Court in Lilongwe has sentenced three Chinese nationals to 6 years imprisonment for trafficking two Malawian ladies.

Principal Resident Magistrate Roderick Michongwe delivered the verdict after considering submissions from all involved parties and highlighting the gravity of human trafficking offenses.

The three individuals, Zhang Yan Qing, Zhou Yan Hu, and Mian Mian Chen, were apprehended at Kamuzu International Airport last year while trafficking two Malawian women reportedly married to them.

Foster Benjamin, Deputy Public Relations Officer for the Central West Region Police headquarters, emphasized the importance of the sentence as a deterrent to potential offenders.

The severity of the punishment underscores Malawi’s commitment to combating human trafficking and protecting its citizens from exploitation.
