Nsanje district has been highlighted as an area which is at high risk of new infection of HIV/AIDS especially in fishing harbors where transactional sex has become rampant.
This has been revealed by District condom coordinator John Maganizo, yesterday on 19 February 2024, during the commemoration of International Condom Day.
He further disclosed that they distributed over 500,000 condoms in the area from July 2022 to June 2023, a critical development in halting the spread of HIV/AIDS, unintended pregnancies, and sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
The AIDS Healthcare Foundation’s (AHF) officer responsible for prevention in the southern region, Jacob Pidini, expressed concern over most women in the district continuing to shun the use of female condoms.
