Police in Mulanje have arrested 18 people for inciting violence and malicious damage.

Deputy Public Relations Officer for Mulanje Police Station Leah Chagomerana has confirmed the arrest.

According to Chagomerana, after GVH Kukada had put strict measures to protect Likhubula Forest Reserve, her subjects and those from the surrounding villages got angry.

She said on February 21, 2024, Kukada got surprised when some people stormed her home and demolished her house before a joint operation by Mulanje Police Station and Golf Division of South East Region controlled the situation.

The suspects whose ages range from 16 to 46,  hails from Matenje, Mulera, Kambenje, Mwangali and Kukada villages, have been charged with inciting violence and malicious damage.
