Police in Zomba have arrested five people in connection with the chasing of deputy special advisor on religious affairs to president Chakwera Sheikh Hashim Abbas at a meeting place last Saturday.

Spokesperson for police in the eastern region, Superintendent Patrick Mussa, told Zodiak Online that the suspects will appear before court soon.

People had to run helter-skelter after allegedly hearing that the meeting called by the presidential advisor was meant for free maize distribution, only to realize it was a political rally.

Sheikh Hashim has denied registering national identity card numbers for possible food distribution in the area, saying he was invited by traditional leaders.
