Police in Lilongwe have arrested a 50-year-old man named Chiyipira Nsato on suspicion of involvement in the theft of equipment belonging to the Catholic Church’s Radio Maria station in Area 43.
According to the police report, the suspect was part of a group of three individuals involved in the burglary.
Police recovered five boxes containing equipment from the studio and a transmitter.
The theft occurred on the nights of the 19th and 20th of this month, resulting in significant financial losses, according to Radio Maria’s Senior Priest, Father Josephy Kimu.
The stolen equipment, originating from Italy where the Catholic Church is headquartered, was intended to support the expansion of the radio station from Mangochi to Area 43 in Lilongwe.
Currently, police are searching for the remaining three suspects who have not yet been apprehended.
