Mulanje Police Spokesperson Sergeant Innocent Moses stated that January was apprehended by members of the community who have been suspecting him of being behind a spate of motorcycle robberies at the trading centre.
Police have established that January is also a wanted criminal in Mozambique.
A 29-year-old Mozambican national named Maliseni January has been arrested in Mulanje on allegations that he stole a motorcycle and is also suspected to have been terrorizing the area around the Chinakanaka trading center.
Moses said January was assaulted by the mob, and he has been admitted to Mulanje District Hospital.
He will appear before court soon.
