The department of disaster management affairs in Karonga says over 9 hundred households have been affected by flash floods in the district.

The floods are a result of a heavy downpour the district experienced during the night of Friday February 23rd, 2024.

According to the Karonga district disaster assessment report, about 50 houses have been completely destroyed and other 147 houses have been partially damaged while other 794 houses have had water run through them.

Meanwhile, no death has been recorded but one person has suffered some injuries and the affected families are seeking refuge at evacuation sites that have been established by the council.

North Rukulu river in Karonga has risen to the capacity with water, due to heavy rains, leading to flooding in some parts of the nearby villages.
Crops and Houses have been destroyed forcing people to evacuate from their homes.
Waters from the river have overflown above Songwe Border- Karonga Boma M1 road after Rukulu Bridge Road block.
