Government through Ministry of Local Government, Unity and Culture has ordered the Lilongwe City Council to suspend slashing of maize suspected to have been grown in prohibited places in the city.

The City Council on Tuesday slashed maize in area 43 where over 10 maize fields were affected, attracting criticisms from the general public.

In reaction, the Ministry of Local government ordered the Council to suspend the exercise, saying the exercise has come at the wrong time.
