Information reaching this publication indicates that two employees of the state-owned Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) who were trapped by flooding water at at Dwangwa trading center have finally been rescued.
Nkhotakota and some other districts in the North and Eastern District of Malawi have been receiving heavy rains non-stop resulting into flash floods.
A total of over 201 people have been trapped the raging water and ESCOM employees namely; Gloria Kambirinya and Symon Chakwera Banda were among the trapped people.
ESCOM management has confirmed of the development in a statement posted on its official Facebook page.
A total of 6 145 people have been affected, according to figures released by authorities. Of these, 4 985 are from Traditional Authority (T/A) Kanyenda while 957 people are from T/A Mphonde and 67 from T/A Malenga.
Emergency camps are currently sheltering over 6 000 people.
