Police in Kasungu have arrested six people in connection with the abduction of a local leader and three other villagers who are being accused of being police informants in the murder case of a police officer in the district.
Deputy National Police PRO, Superintendent Alfred Chimthere, stated, “Since the incident police were picking people for questioning and the suspected abductors accused the local leader and others of providing leads to police hence abducting them as punishment.”
The suspects, identified as Soya Baloyi, Stefano Baloyi, Petros Baloyi, Sipiliano Banda, Petro Nkhoma, and Vincent Nkhoma, will appear in court soon.
The arrests come after the murder of Sub Inspector Cosmans Beseni in December last year during riots against a Community Development Initiative project.
Authorities are taking swift action to address the abduction and its alleged connection to the murder case.
