Police in Dowa have arrested Gift Banda aged 24 for breaking into a house of a Congolese national and stole a plasma screen at Dzaleka Refugee Camp.
According to Dowa Police spokesperson Alice Stima the incident occurred during the evening of March 10, 2024.
Following the incident, Ndume Makanjali , a Congolese national reported to Dzaleka Police Unit that his house was broken into and a 32 inch plasma worth K340,000 was stolen by unknown criminals.
After receiving the report, Police officers rushed to the the scene and confirmed the incident.
As they were conducting patrols around the camp, they came across Banda carrying a sack bag and, after a search, the officers found the plasma in question and a Techno cellphone.
Upon interrogations, Banda admitted to have committed the offense together with his accomplices.
The suspects used sharp objects to open the window and forced themselves in.
Meanwhile, investigations are under way to arrest the remaining suspects.
The suspect will appear in court soon to answer the charge of burglary.
Gift Banda hails from Mtata Village, Traditional Authority Mkukula in Dowa district.
