The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has alleged that the arrest of Tiawone Hendry, a shadow MP, is politically motivated.

The party’s spokesperson, Shadrec Namalomba, voiced concerns over what they perceive as swift police action in this case, contrasting it with other unresolved incidents, such as the attack on DPP supporters at Mbowe in Lilongwe.

Despite the availability of video evidence and photographs implicating the perpetrators, the DPP expressed disappointment over the lack of arrests in previous incidents involving its supporters, like the Mbowe incident.

The DPP emphasized the importance of impartiality and professionalism in law enforcement, urging for fair treatment and swift action in all cases, including those related to attacks on its supporters.

The Malawi Police Service (MPS) has stated it is investigating the issue, aiming to bring the culprits to justice, though no specific timeline has been provided.
