The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested Von Martin Banda, a police officer from Chilumba recently transferred to Mzuzu, and Eliya Mwafulirwa, a village headman from Karonga district, on March 12th.
The arrests stem from allegations that the duo conspired to solicit a bribe of two bulls from Moses Nyondo in exchange for facilitating the release of Nyondo’s son, Dickson, who faced charges of property damage.
Mwafulirwa initially requested the cattle from Nyondo to secure his son’s release, later passing on K50,000 to Banda for this purpose.
Banda then allegedly demanded and received an additional K30,000 bribe to grant bail to three other detainees related to the same case.
Both men face charges under the Corrupt Practices Act.
