Police at Chileka in Blantyre have arrested a 50 year old man, Paul Makani Mugawa, on suspicion of having sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old girl.
According to Chileka police publicist, Sergeant Jonathan Phillipo, it was reported that the suspect, during the month of October 2023, proposed to the victim to be his lover, and since then, their intimate love started and ended up having sexual intercourse several times until February 2024.
Police said the mother of the victim reported the case to the Chileka Police Station.
Police officers later took the girl for a medical examination at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital, where it was revealed that there was penatration.
Phillipo further stated that the mother had some information that the two were in a relationship and that, at one point, she even seized a Tecno Pop 7 phone that was given to the victim by the suspect.
Mugawa will appear before court soon.
