Lungwena Bridge in Mangochi has been damaged as a freightliner truck carrying 600 bags of maize flour belonging to Department of Disaster Management Affairs was crossing it.
Mangochi Police Station spokesperson Amina Tepani Daudi confirmed this saying the accident happened yesterday along Mangochi-Makanjira Road.
She said: “Driver was driving from the direction of Mangochi heading towards Makanjira with 600 bags of maize flour belonging to department of disaster and management affairs.
“Then, as he was midway crossing the bridge, the pillars of the bridge got damaged, and part of the bridge collapsed, which made the trailer twist.”
Daudi added that following the accident, some bags of flour fell into the river.
