A 45-year-old truck driver, Ronex Chizumila, has suddenly died while sleeping in his truck during the night of March 17, 2024, at Jenda in Mzimba.
According to Jenda Police Station Spokesperson Sub-Inspector Macfarlen Mseteka it has been established that Chizumila, who was working as a truck driver for Ntolen Nhlane, a businessman at Jenda, used to sleep in the truck because he had not yet secured a place to stay as this was his second month since he joined the company.
“On March 16, 2024 Chizumila was supposed to report on duty from holiday, where he went to visit his family in Chitipa.
” His employer was called by Chizumila’s wife who was worried that Chizumila’s phone was not being answered since previous night, thus when Nhlane went to check in the truck and found Chizumila unconscious”,Said Mseteka.
The issue was reported at Jenda police station, where police detectives visited the scene, together with medical personnel from Jenda rural hospital.
Preliminary investigations suggest natural cause of death as the deceased had a history of blood pressure. Meanwhile, the dead body has been sent to Mzuzu central hospital for a full postmortem.
Jenda Police Station has since advised members of the community to avoid circulating false rumours that Chizumila was involved in a road accident.
Ronex Chizumila hailed from Ishalikira Village, Traditional Authority Mwaulambia in Chitipa district.
