Police at Bunda in Lilongwe have arrested two brothers who have been on the run for a fortnight, on suspicion that they assaulted to death Luciano Masiye, 26, and secretly buried his body at a graveyard at Lumwila Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Chadza in the district.

Lilongwe Police Spokeperson Inspector Hastings Chigalu has identified the suspects as Polofesa Posiyano, 24, and Stephano Kwalapu, 27.

According to Chigalu on this fateful day Masiye (deceased), who separated with his wife in February this year, and went to marry another wife somewhere, returned to the village for a dialogue discussion with the ex-wife.

“However, the meeting could not resolve their differences as Masiye (deceased), started damaging property and removing a door of the house, a development which prompted the wife to shout for help.

” Then, four brothers quickly came in and started manhandling Masiye with blunt objects and panga knives until he succumbed to the assaults”,said Chigalu.

Later, the suspects decided to conceal the murder by organizing burial of the body, the same night at the graveyard without the knowledge of village authorities and community members including the deceased’s relations.

Three days later, winds of the brutal killing and the subsequent secret burial of Masiye, blew on the village’s group headwoman (Lumwira), who tipped off police at Bunda on the same.

Detectives swiftly moved in to apprehend one suspect, Azele Kaiteni, 38, who led police to the place they buried the body.

Postmortem by Kamuzu Central Hospital, following exhumation of the body, revealed that death was due to severe hemorrhage shock, and traumatic brain injuries caused by open wounds.

The suspects, Polofesa Posiyano, Stephano Kwalapu, who both come from Lumwira Village, T/A Chadza in Lilongwe District, join Azele Kaiteni on the arrested suspects, and they will all answer a case of murder.
