A 35-year-old man believed to be a Burundian National has been discovered dead inside his shop in Lusaka’s John Leing Compound in a case of murder in Zambia.
And in a twist of events, one of the suspects in the case who was apprehended by Police and later tried to escape, has been shot and declared dead upon arrival at the University Teaching Hospital.
The victim who has been identified as Anderson Uwela, was renting and staying in the said shop, with Police investigations establishing that he was murdered by unknown people between 01:00 hours and 04:00 hours on 24th March, 2024.
Deputy Police Public Relations Officer Danny Mwale, notes that the victim sustained deep cuts on his forehead as a machete is suspected to have been used in the ordeal.
Mwale states that the perpetrators went away with an undisclosed amount of money and Cellular phone, adding that they gained entry by breaking the locking system of the shop.
He relays that around 17:00 hours on the material day, Police arrested one suspect identified as Robert Sinkala, 25, also known as Kelony, who has been on Police wanted list for various crimes including murder and aggravated robberies around John Leing.
Mwale conveys that Sinkala led Police Officers for recoveries in John Leing and Kanyama Compounds where machetes and an axe, among other offensive weapons, were recovered around 22:00 hours.
He however notes that as Police officers progressed to recover the stolen Cellular phone, the suspect ran away, prompting them to fire warning shots and in the process was caught by a bullet, sustaining a fatal wound.
