The Malawi bureau of standards (MBS) has gave certification awards to companies that have adhered to national standards for the past 12 months.
The number of awardees this year has gone up from 135 last year to 273, thus making the number of certified companies 1156.
The awarding of certificates ceremony took place in Blantyre on Monday 25th March.
Speaking during the event MBS board chairperson Davlin Chokazinga emphasized on the importance of adhering to national standards set by the regularly body.
Chokazinga further said that if the companies sustain the quality culture which they have shown over the past 12 months, their products will be able to survive on the market and their business will grow to new level as well.
“Which will enables the government to correct enough revenue through tax as companies will be able to export their products, hence improving the foreign exchange earnings.” said Chokazinga.
In her remarks, MBS director of quality assurance Gloria Chaonamwene Mereka.
Express delight with the increase of small and medium enterprises (SME’s) on the number of awardees which she attributed to sensitizing meetings they had with business operators.
Which enables them to understand the importance of adhering to national quality standards.
The certification awards ceremony will also be held in Lilongwe and Mzuzu on the 26th March and 28th respectively.
The Malawi bureau of standards (MBS) is a statutory organization established in 1972 by an act of parliament, with mandate to promote metrology, standardization and quality assurance of commodities and of the manufacturer, production, processing or treatment.
