Police in Mchinji have arrested seven men for suspecting them allegedly beat to death a 30 year-old man accused of theft.
Spokesperson for Mchinji Police Limbani Mpinganjira, has confirmed the development and said the suspects committed the crime on 25 March 2024 when they caught three men stealing green maize in someone’s farm.
According to Mpinganjira, when the suspects catch the suspected thieves, the beat them severe till Police forum came to the rescue.
The three were taken to hospital for treatment and Moffat Phiri, 30, pronounced dead upon arrival.
The postmortem results by medical practitioners, reveals that Phiri was dead due to severe loss of blood after being beaten severely.
The seven identified as Innocent Sankhani , 37, Davison Mbewe, 30, Robert Sangulukani, 29, Kalion Phiri, 24 and Chisomo Libson 23, will soon appear before court to answer charges leveled against them,
Meanwhile, Police in the district have urged villagers to respect the right of others including those of suspect of crime until court proven it innocent or not.
