An angry mob have beat to death a man identified as Anderson Milembo from Ufwenuka Chiefdom in Monze District in Zambia for allegedly found stealing fresh maize from a field.

The incident was reported to Gwembe Police Station Officer-In- Charge, Abby Banda, on 25th March, 2024, around 12:30 hours from an unknown person who indicated that the deceased had been beaten by an instant justice mob.

Southern Province Commissioner of Police, Auxensio Daka, has confirmed the development and  states that Officers rushed to Chiyobola to pick Milembo and arrest the perpetrators.

Daka notes that upon arrival, they found the now deceased lying unconscious on the ground near Chiyobola Dam away from the maize fields and surrounded by an angry Mob.

He says the Officers opted to pick Milembo with a view to save life and rushed him to Gwembe District Hospital where he was certified dead by the medical Doctor upon arrival.

Daka says investigations are still ongoing as the owner of the maize field in which the deceased allegedly stole from has been summoned.

Meanwhile, four people who have been identified to have taken part in assaulting the deceased are said to be on the run.

Two relatives to the deceased namely, Patrick Milembo and Terry Milembo, identified the alleged perpetrators as Borniface Hangala, who allegedly used a Slasher in the act of beating the deceased and Osbin Chilundu, Gift Mang’omba and Trywell Dabungala.
