Concerned Machinjiri based businessman Alex Chimwala has said he is still consulting on whether to contest or not as Member of Parliament in the 2025 tripartite election.
Chimwala said this following rumours hovering around Machinjiri that he is having ambitions to as lawmaker for Blantyre City South Lunzu Constituency.
Speaking during the finals of the Alex Chimwala Football League where Horse United emerged victorious after beating Zobwizo FC 3-1 through post-march penalties, Chimwala said he is just hearing from people but he is yet to make a decision on the matter.
“I’m just hearing from people and you the media that am contesting as an MP in the 2025 polls but to be honest with you am yet to make a decision on that, now my focus is to develop Machinjiri by giving back the little I earn from the business I do.
“Reserve this question to January next year,” said Chimwala.
One of the female football fans who is also member of Friends of Alex Chimwala, Fyness Kudyauko said her wish is to see Chimwala on the ballot in the forthcoming 2025 polls.
“Mr Chimwala has done a lot for Machinjiri and my wish is to see her on the ballot. He has been moving around planting trees, helping the elderly, sponsoring football and also renovating bridges. Wabwino aponse apa? anzanga aku Machinjiri tiyeni tizavotele mwana wathu uyu,” said Kudyauko.
Turning to the football and netball league he is sponsoring in the area, Chimwala urged the youths in Machinjiri to desist from acts of hooliganism.
He also hailed Horse United for emerging as Champions.
Horse United went away with MK250,000.00 while Zobwizo got MK150,000.00 for emerging as runners up.
The March also saw the presence of football legend Ojuku Malunga who once played for Mighty Mukuru Wanderers and Macfallen M’gwira, former Nyasa Big Bullets player.
